MEDIA AND EVENT DAY MEDIA organizing / media resources to celebrate world tai chi & qigong day

How to "get media to attend" your event, and to handle media interviews before, and on, your WTCQD event day to maximize affect ...

Below are a series of suggested approaches to the media, and press release texts you might use to maximize effectiveness of your EVENT DAY media potential.

Also, you can click here for Official Press Releases you can use in several languages, alerting-urging media to attend your event on World Tai Chi & Qigong Day . . . but, the below "strategy" for contacting media may be helpful even if you use the Official Press Releases link. So be sure to return to read this entire page.

You'll learn about creating a building wave of media announcements, that will captivate local media to want to come and see what you are up to on WTCQD. In addition to the below post card press release ideas, we have official press releases in 18 languages you can utilize. Click here (and then scroll down page) for them.

When you are at the media studio, or they come to your event, you can educate the media and the public about the myriad mental, emotional, and physical health benefits Tai Chi and Qigong medical research are revealling.

You may get an opportunity to talk about your local school or groups that are involved so the community will know about them.

Media spends so much time covering depressing tragedies that no one can do anything about . . . on this special day each year you will provide local media with a gift to make a profound difference in the lives of their viewers and readers . . .

Just as the quiet contemplative aspect of Tai Chi and Qigong can help us find that calmer, clearer purpose in our lives, so can World Tai Chi and Qigong Day help you, your local institutions, and local media to realize a higher purpose, that will expand the health and well being of your community . . . and thereby . . .
our world . . .

Have fun with the media !!   Remember, it's a global celebration !!

Use your time with the media well ...

Below will help you "get the media to your event" or "to you for an interview," so you want to use that microphone well.  Educate the interviewer/viewers about mounting Tai Chi and Qigong Medical Research, and be succinct.  A great way to convey a great deal with few words, is to quote Harvard Health Publications in calling Tai Chi, not a "moving meditation," but rather a "moving MEDICATION" for all the myriad health issues it can help prevent or even treat.  Learn more facts at our FREE Tai Chi Medical Research Library.

Spend some time practicing what you plan to say.  When you actually do the interview you'll be able to speak naturally off the top of your head, IF you spend a bunch of time practicing what you want to say.  Then you won't sound stilted, like you are parroting memorized lines.  Its kind of like Tai Chi, we learn the moves and practice, practice, practice ... so we can "let go" and allow the forms to flow through us naturally.

FOR STUDIO INTERVIEWS ...

Ask the studio contact before coming to the studio, if you can have some students actually perform their Tai Chi form behind you and the interviewer while you do the interview.  Probably 2 or 3 students max.  This will have a real calming effect on the interviewer and everyone in the studio, so it'll be calming for you too. Plus viewers get to see Tai Chi in motion while you educate them about the medical science on Tai Chi and Qigong.   Depending on the studio/interviewer format, this might be rejected, but the interviewer may also find it to be an exciting addtion, you won't know until you float the idea to them.  But, you can spring it on them the day of the intervew, that is too late, you have to contact them days before the interview, so they can have the camera's, etc., set up for it.

So, how do WTCQD groups hold their events?

WTCQD Events are held in 100s of cities in over 80 nations, and they are as varied as the people/nations holding them.

YOU decide what your WTCQD event will be.  Here in Kansas City, we gather at 9:30 am on the "last Saturday of April" to hold a free Tai Chi Teach-In where we teach the public a few Tai Chi moves (5 of them to be precise) so that they can PLAY TAI CHI WITH THE WORLD at 10 am US Central Time (our local KC time), when the worldwide wave of Qi comes through the Central Time Zones of North and South America.

We will often have several schools of several styles of Tai Chi and Qigong participating, so we introduce and acknowledge ALL the teachers/schools for their good works in our community. Then we ALL participate in a gentle Moving Qigong Meditation, to relax and get in the mood.

At 10 am we ALL do the Tai Chi short form we taught in the workshop at 9:30 am, all the groups and schools participating in it as one.  Since its short, simple/easy to learn, we repeat it, looping it a few times as we become part of the worldwide wave at 10 am.  But, before we do that, we offer an Opening Statement, which is read around the world in many locations, to acknowledge the global family of Tai Chi and Qigong, and their wave of Qi and goodwill they send our way.  See video at bottom of this page, and find links to the Opening Statement in several languages. Then we all perform the Tai Chi short form, together, as one, and join in the worldwide wave of Qi and goodwill flowing through our time zone at 10 am.

THEN, we break up into groups, and we all sit and watch as each individual style/group/school performs their Tai Chi or Qigong style for the others gathered to celebrate WTCQD. Each group is introduced and exhibits their form as we watch.

SEE BELOW VIDEO OF "OPENING STATEMENT" for WTCQD events to read (if they wish).
