Ashville, North Carolina - Proclamation
Mayor Charles Worley has proclaimed Saturday "Tai Chi and Qigong Day," joining government officials worldwide in recognition of the health benefits of these Chinese exercises.
According to the proclamation, "Tai chi and qigong are low-cost, gentle and effective health enhancement methods that are accessible to people of all ages." Among their many benefits are "stress relief, a calm, meditative state of mind, improved balance, coordination and flexibility."
The fact Worley would proclaim Saturday to be Tai Chi and Qigong Day "says a lot even in a progressive town like Asheville that the city government can be behind something like this," Clark said.
