I AM SAM - Love is all you need.
This American film is a deeply moving experience.
"I am Sam" takes us on a journey between two worlds, the one of the learning disabled, and the one of the heart disabled (most of us moving too fast in an even faster world).
Sam (Sean Penn), the learning disabled star of this film is thrown into the world of a high powered Hollywood lawyer played by Michelle Pfeiffer. Their worlds collide in extremely funny and profoundly moving ways.
This is in my opinion Sean Penn's finest role, and Michelle Pfeiffer brilliantly supports his masterful performance. This film touched me deeply, as I taught learning disabled students Tai Chi a few years back. When I arrived for classes my students hugged me and and patted my head and stroked my face, and were completely unashamed to tell me how happy they were to see me..
One day the administrator of the program told me that I should not allow the students to hug me, because we were supposed to be training them to live in the world. I still believe that we teachers, and the world, should have been learning something from those students, and "I am Sam" brings this truth home beautifully weaving its scenes within the lyrical lines of The Beatles.
